Alamance County Tow Operator Involved In Tractor Trailer Accident In Orange County.

Earlier today at 6:32pm Emergency crews with Orange County were dispatched to I40 North at the 270 for a vehicle rollover involving a local tow operator from Alamance County Claiborne Kaysone 27 and a Swift transport tractor trailer. NC Highway Patrol were also dispatched to the crash site and the interstate came to a stand still for an hour and Troopers investigating the crash determined the Black Dodge Ram was side swiped by the Swift truck driver named Steven Colons 36 and was not paying attention to his surrounding before changing lanes colliding into the pick up truck. Dash cam footage obtained from the ram trucks gps and onboard camera showed Kaysone following the posted speed limit as well Colons entering the interstate from the ramp and rapidly changing lanes with no signal giving Kaysone no time to avoid the collision hitting the passenger side pushing the truck sideways to rolling over.

Kaysone’s truck had to be cut open to extricate him out from the vehicle and was transported by ground from Duke Life Flight to Duke University Hospital and currently listed in critical condition from the wreckage.

Local wrecker companies arrived to clean up the scene spending hours clearing up tools and equipment from the ram and clearing up the roadway.

Highway Patrol states the driver was distracted and found that the driver was texting after viewing electronic footage from the swift trucks onboard camera system. Colons was not injured but has been placed under arrest and will be charged with assault with a motor vehicle and also found to be in possession of controlled substance and drug peraphenelia inside the cab hidden.
