Athlete Now Charged With First Degree Murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police detectives are investigating after a man was shot and killed in north Charlotte Monday Night March 27th.
According to CMPD, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1900 block of Catherine Simmons Avenue just before 8:30. When officers arrived, police say they found a man lying close to the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Laymon Moore, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to officials, the initial investigation revealed that the victim was walking on Catherine Simmons Avenue, across from the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Park, when a vehicle pulled up beside him.
The suspects in the vehicle had a verbal argument with him, which escalated into a shooting, CMPD says. After the suspects shot the man, they left the scene in the car. Later due to evidence left on scene North Carolina police took West Palm Beach , Florida athlete De’Andre Straker into custody. Sgt.Harris quoted that Straker was on an official football visit at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte . Straker wouldn’t speak on what happened that night . Now he is being held without bail
