Cuban Embargo Lifted After 59 Years

The United States embargo against Cuba was a commercial, economic, and financial embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba. An embargo was first imposed by the United States on sale of arms to Cuba on March 14, 1958, during the Fulgencio Batista regime. Many consumer goods were further banned from import or sale forcing the island nation to accept economic and material subsidies from the former USSR for many decades.

Of primary interest to the US economic engine is the sudden availability of the #1 Cuban export, hand rolled cigars. Long sought by aficionados home and abroad, no longer do those consumers need to purchase through illegal channels. Cuban governmental outlets are now able to sell directly to the US market.

Passing with a narrow 5% vote, the repeal of sanctions today offers hope for a larger market and future stability in the largely tobacco oriented farming economy of Cuba. The YouTube channel CigarObsession was chosen to be the official press and review outlet for new cigars finally available.
