Disney’s next live action remake is a controversial choice.

With the success of Cinderella, the Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, Disney is continuing to remake their old properties as CG/live action films. Lion King is already slated to come out and they’ve just announced their next choice which is controversial to say the least. Song of the South has long been mostly unavailable due to being racially insensitive, but Disney executives thought now was the time to make a new version that is appropriate for modern audiences. Little details have been shared except that star Will Smith will be reimagining the film’s iconic song “Zippity Doo Dah” as a rap song entitled “Gettin’ Zippy With It.” Kevin Hart will be starring as Brer Rabbit. Disney superfan and host of the Laser Time podcast, Chris Antista, was asked his opinion but responded with mostly incoherent sobbing.
