ECU Transit Drivers Go On Strike During Finals Week

ECU Transit is a vital key to East Carolina University, providing more than 2.5 million rides to students, staff, and guests every year.

However, that number will dwindle as ECU Transit drivers announced on Saturday that they will not being returning to work despite the fact that Final Exams conclude this week with graduation ceremonies on Friday and Saturday.

The reason for this strike varies from employee to employee. One employee we reach out to, Thomas Gillig, told us “My concern is that I wake up every morning at 5:00 AM and I don’t even get a single ‘Thank You’.”

Another employee, Frank Arboc said he was “tired of feeling like less of a man.” Referring to the fact he drives the short bus for Pirate Access.

Finally, the third employee we talked to, Susie Bluebird, says she felt management would not listen to her concerns because she claims the FM radio on bus 32 has been broken since Fall 2016.

Hopefully, ECU Transit can come up with a solution by tomorrow morning. ECU officials say that Final Exams will continue as scheduled and that the situation presented “does not affect University Officials.”
