FOSTER:Ó LABHAIR AN TEANGA GHAEILGE LIOM

Arlene Foster has been accused of sending out mixed signals after visiting Irish language students at a Newry school this morning. When speaking to the media after her visit, she spoke warmly of the reception she received but made no mention of her controversial remarks regarding Irish speakers earlier this year, or indeed the contentious Irish Language Act. However, when reading from a pre-prepared script to an Irish language journalist, Foster then remarked: “Ó Labhair an teanga Ghaeilge liom, is í teanga cheart na nGael!” She thanked students for helping her with her pronunciation. DUP sources are said to be furious, however, that she didn’t Google Translate the line before giving it to the media. Gregory Campbell has been quoted tonight as saying “Curry my yogurt very much, Arlene.”
