Native North Carolinian Causes Massive Confusion in Ohio

Moving from one part of the country to another can be a daunting task. But for one recent Ohio transplant, it’s been more like an Expat experience. Beverly Mann has caused massive confusion within the Buckeye State just by simply talking in her native North Carolinian tongue. Words like ya’ll, yonder, fixin, and cut on/off are just not recognized among her new peers. Even her common vocabulary words are met with cynicism due to the extra syllables that native North Carolinians so decoratively add when communicating. “It’s like they are learning a whole new language.” commented Beverly when asked about her experience. But then she quickly followed with “But they will conform to me; I’ll pave the way for an adaptation of the Southern Drawl.” We’ll see how that turns out for her.
