On Tuesday, April 26th 2017, Ohio State Highway Patrolman, Trooper Mario Andretti initiated a traffic stop with Leroy Jenkins, 37 of Parkersburg on North-bound State Route 50. Troopers say Jenkins was acting suspicious, with a peculiar smell of waffles coming from the vehicle. A contraband sniffing dog alerted to the rear of his 2009 Honda Fluff, leading to a probable cause search. Trooper Andretti discovered 200 fluid ounces of illegal Canadian maple syrup smuggled from Canada, worth approximately $50 on the street. When questioned on the topic, Jenkins brandished a candy cane he had licked to a sharp point and attacked Andretti. A stuggle ensued, leading to Jenkins being tasered by Troopers assisting Andretti. Jenkins was promptly taken into custody for maple syrup smuggling, and attacking a Trooper. Jenkins is being held at Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on $100,000 bond. He will appear in court September of this year.
