Police say local man stole millions from politicians, but gave to the poor

North Carolina SBI working alongside local authorities have apprehended a man they say swindled millions from politicians from numerous offices.
Robert Allen Burrell II, 35, from Dallas, NC was taken into custody Saturday morning and faces numerous charges from Fraud, Obtaining Property Under False Pretenses, Federal Computer Hacking charges, among others. State Investigator Phil McCracken said he expects more charges will be added after their departments investigate the 6 computers confiscated from Burrell’s property.
Police say they first became suspicious of Mr. Burrell after being questioned about political donations that were reportedly made then disappeared from records. Police say it actually looks as if he donated most of the money to charities such as St. Jude’s, Shriner’s Hospitals for Crippled Children, etc. “Even if he gave every last cent away,” McCracken said, “the fact of the matter is it just isn’t his money to give away.”
Burrell is looking at a quite a bit of jail time, and investigators aren’t sure at how many charges will be filed when all is said and done. Burrell has a first appearance court date Monday morning at the Mecklenburg County Court House in Charlotte, NC.
