Search for Convicted Killer in Rouge Valley

Inmate convicted in the murder of a White City man.

“The search for escaped prisoner Skyler Shoup will continue overnight,” Jackson County Police tweeted this evening. “Anyone with information is urged to call 911. Police are offering a reward up to $5,000.” Skyler Shoup 19, escaped yesterday evening from a van that had been driven from the Jackson County Corrections Center to the Providence area Hospital Center in Medford OR , Jackson County Police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said.

The escape happened on the edges of the hospital grounds around 5:30 Llewellyn said. When a guard opened the door to the van Shoup pushed the guard down and ran into the woods, Llewellyn said.

Authorities believe Shoup somehow got out of his handcuffs and waist chain while in the van.

There has been no sighting of Shoup, who is serving a life prison sentence in Jackson County for the murder of a White City man, Llewellyn said.

He is also facing charges in Jefferson County, OR for another count of attempted murder.

Police do not know whether Shoup has any outside help or whether he has left the area. Authorities lost sight of him as he ran into the woods but they were able to pick up a canine trail. So they know in which direction he was headed, Llewellyn said.
