The city of East Tawas cuts F.D. budget

East Tawas. The city council of East Tawas went into an emergency session April 29th to discus a short fall in this years budget. The meeting was to determine where the cuts should be made. According to the city manager, the best cuts would be to the fire department. The fire department Chief was told to either pull all the hose off the truck or to get rid of their main pumper. The city manager claims that the funds are just not available to use fire hoses and a pumper on the same fire scene. The decision was made to pull off the hose lines. The chief stated that the hoses would not have that much of an effect on a fire if there was no pumper. The chief went on to say that they will bring back the bucket brigade until money can be found. Other departments around the country have already made these cuts.
