Tulsa thrash metal band Volition under fire for lyrics about torture and killing.

Rock n Roll has gone a long way from the days of Elvis shocking the United States, to Marilyn Manson. Rock music has been no stranger to controversy. In recent years, it has been in the form of one musical genre known as “Thrash Metal” with bands whose lyrical content tackles social and political issues, etc, however there other Thrash Metal groups, whose lyrics deal with the Occult, Sexism, and Serial Killing. One of these kinds of bands is a band from Tulsa, known as Volition, and although the name sounds subtle, the music is far from it. Here are some of the lyrics taken from one of their songs:

“You’ve taunted me with your rumors
Ive seen through your lies
Stabbing me in the back
You should’ve thought twice
Many years behind bars
Instilling my hate
Planning the task
To bring upon your horrific fate”

Although we could not get a word from one Mary Fallin, but from what reports say is that she deems the band to be “Immoral” and “Sick”. The protesters often try and stop their shows from happening, one protester remarked: “We do not need this kind smut among our communities, this group paints a very negative picture on Tulsa’s citizens”

However, we manage to have a sit down interview with the drummer of Volition, Cody Creitz or who goes by the name Malice Von Creitz. He however shows a different perspective on why they write and create such aggressive music: “Our music is a reflection of our emotions, and how we see society as a whole, you may not like it, but it is reality. Everything cannot be flowers, rainbows, butterflies, etc. especially when you read about some psychopath who just murdered someone and has a collection of decapitated heads in their freezer, or a marauding army who takes a city or kingdom by storm. Art is not always something pretty to look at, it can invoke such responses be it good or negative, and our art is represented through our music”.

Volition has recorded its first record, the title is “Visions of the Onslaught”, and while its still being mixed and mastered, the band has stated the record should be out sometime this summer, the group is also planning doing a US tour, and possibly a tour in Europe.
