President Donald Trump on Sunday announced Elon Musk was named Ambassador to Mars, becoming the first person to ever hold the position.
“Elon Musk has spoken setting up a colony on Mars so there’s no one else more fitting to hold this position,” President Trump said in a release. “The position will be responsible for helping to direct the U.S. effort to explore, inhabit and control the Red Planet.”
Musk said he will take a temporary leave of absence from Tesla, Solar City and SpaceX to assume a full-time job of Ambassador to Mars.
