Former Lynn resident and current Sporting News Journalist Makes Leap From Pen To The Parquet.

Call him crazy, call him a dreamer, just don’t call him Shirley. In a leap that some are calling crazier than Kareem’s parquet to plane pilot, Sporting News jounalist and self proclaimed ‘Buffalo wing enthusiast’ Sean Deveney is attempting to make his dream of becoming an NBA legend a reality. Buzz at this weeks combine have coaches and scouts excited at the possibility of landing the raw talent based on a vertical leap that increased 100% in 2 weeks. ‘When I heard his vertical improved by 100% in 2-weeks, I had to take a second look’ one talent evaluator, who preferred to remain anonymous, said. Another said, ‘he’s raw, not as tall as we’d like and certainly older than most prospects we’d draft, but 100% is 100% and you can’t take that away from the guy’.
In speaking with Deveney, I asked if he was worthy of all the buzz. His answer was humble and straight forward, endearing him to other talent evaluators as they all like straight shooters. ‘My goal here was to be seen, and get my shot at playing in the NBA. Let’s face it, I’m usually writing about guys like me. If my work at improving my vertical has increased those odds, I’m happy, and I’ll just keep working’.
At press time Deveney was yet still working on his vertical and had yet another improvement. From 3 inches to 6-inches and now to 7. Is there any stopping this guy? Fly high Buffalo wing, fly high.
