Galway is celebrating this evening with the news that Barman , Pat Murray of DeBrun in Dominic Street has come second in the World Barman Championships.
Mr. Murray won the National Title some months ago, when he beat off strong competition to will the All Ireland Barman First Prize. A native of Charlestown, Co. Mayo, Pat has been pulling pints in Galway for years. The International Competition was held in Adis Ababa here Pat was pipped to the title my a Middle Eastern man.
Speaking to this channel, Mr. Murray said that he bore no ill will against the winner.
“I did my best for Ireland and the people of Galway and Mayo” he said. ” The best man won and I wish him well, – that’s life. I thought that I had the beating of him, but he won fair and square”
He continued ” When he turned the water into wine – I knew I was beaten”!
