Local Binghamton Woman Arrested for Second Degree Murder

Saturday, May 6th 2017, was a tragic night for one family as Binghamton Police responded to a 911 call. At 2:25 AM, Police arrived at the Murphy residence on West End Ave in Binghamton. Neighbors told investigators there was a young woman wielding a handgun shouting outside from the sidewalk towards the Murphy residence. Soon after, witnesses reported seeing the oldest son, James Murphy, outside with the suspect. They began to engage in, what witnesses say, seemed like a quarrel. Witnesses also stated the two were seen entering the backyard, where only minutes later 7 gunshots were heard. The suspect left the murder weapon and fled the scene as a police chase ensued. The suspect has been identified as 24 year old, Lorraine A. Seidel of Binghamton. She was spotted fleeing on foot on Riverside Drive headed northbound when police surrounded and apprehended her. She is now currently in custody at the Broome County Jail without bail at this time.
