Man found guilty of man slaughter in drug deal death

A man acquitted of murder on Wednesday still faces life in prison after jurors found him guilty of aggravated robbery in a drug deal gone wrong.

Ruben Arath Arriaga was found not guilty on a count of murder in connection with the death of Brian Favela on May 17, 2016. Instead, jurors convicted him on a lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a prison term of up to 20 years.

He faced life in prison under the murder charge.

Arriaga is still facing life in prison, however, after the jury also convicted him on one count of aggravated robbery.

Arriaga, is accused of killing Favela during an alleged drug deal gone wrong at about 2 a.m. May 17, 2016, at his home in the 14320 block of Smith Rd in Humble, Tx. The suspect went to Favela’s home to buy Ecstasy when an altercation broke out and Favela was beat to death.
