May 6, 2019, Senoira, GA – In a bombshell announcement this afternoon, AMC executives, along with Robert Kirkman, co-creator of The Walking Dead franchise, revealed that the hit show will appear on the silverscreen during the summer of 2019.
While details surrounding the plot are unknown at this time, Kirkman did state that he and, showrunner, Scott Gimple have been working together on the screenplay since the fall of 2013. When asked if the movie would involve the cast of the show or a whole new ensemble, Kirkman said the movie would act as a bridge between seasons 9 & 10; while also serving as a launching point for the future of the show.
Gimple, who has served as the head of the show since the end of season 3, was not present for the announcement but released this statement: “While (the movie) sounds like a phenomenal idea, you should have known it would have been announced in a much larger way than thru a random janky link you found on social media.”
