Auto Section: Man Ruins Truck’s Engine, Suing Manufacturer

7/1/2017

A Richmond man has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer of his truck after he ruined his engine driving through deep water.

Ed, an off-roading enthusiast, was traversing mountain trails in the western part of the state when the damage occurred. “I was out there with my son Junior when it happened”, said Ed. “One minute, I’m cruising through a water crossing with water just over the hood of my truck and the next minute my truck cut off!”.

The self-proclaimed off road “expert” has filed papers in the Rockingham County Courts claiming that the maker of his truck, Hino, Inc. failed to put a warning in the owners manual. “If Hino didn’t intend for people to drive through water so deep that it would get in the engine’s intake system, then Hino should have properly warned the owners.”, stated Ed. His lawyer, Seymore Butts, explained the merits upon which the lawsuit is based in an exclusive interview with Channel 23.

“We conclude that Hino is liable for not informing my client that his truck wasn’t capable of driving in deep water”, said Butts. “It is that gross negligence on Hino’s part which put my client in his precarious predicament of having to pay a hefty repair bill to replace his engine.”

Hino, Inc. Representatives had no official comments regarding the pending litigation, but one company exec who wanted to remain anonymous stated in an ‘off the record’ phone call that “this Ed is a complete moron. What idiot drives any vehicle in water so deep that it goes over the hood?”.

A judge in Rockingham County has set a September Hearing date to review the merits of the suit and whether the matter will go to trial.
