City of Havana approves drug testing for welfare

After years of spending great amounts of money on welfare, the city of Havana, IL has decided that all welfare will be distributed based on drug test results. City officials are concerned that too many residents rely on welfare as a way of life. One local told news officials that the “republicans in the area are tired of people using hard earned republican tax dollars to buy drugs” another stated that “welfare is for people that can’t work, not for those that choose not to work”. City officials say that anyone on welfare will be required to take, and pass drug test in order to receive money for food, housing, and utilities, including the funding received through the Illinois LINK program. This is expected to come as a huge shock for the people in the area that previously considered these free funds as thier primary source of income. Most unemployed Havana residents believe this is crossing the line. stating that “it’s against their Constitutional right to peruse happiness for free”. Many are blaming President Donald Trump, and making comments such as “if he didn’t have to work for his money why should I” The new ordnance is expected to take effect August 1, 2017. The city is expecting start to seeing a large decrease in population starting in late July . This is when citizens of Havana are expected to begin to moveing to other cities in the area that are more willing to support them.
