Couple Charged in High Speed Pursuit, Weapons Possession – ABC7 Los Angeles

An Orange County couple is being charged with several crimes, including wreckless driving and weapons possession following a high speed pursuit on Sunday.

The chase originated in the San Gabriel Mountains, near Newcomb’s Ranch, a popular roadside cafe for motorcyclists and owners of high performance vehicles.

A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer attempted to stop the driver, who was observed at very high rate of speed on Hwy 2.

The vehicle, which was a 2017 Shelby GT350, failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued.

A CHP helicopter assisted in the pursuit due to the the motorcycle officer not being able to stay in contact with the fleeing vehicle.

Through modern technology, audio was obtained from inside the suspect’s vehicle. The driver was overheard stating, “Not today, Poncherello!”

The driver and his female passenger were taken into custody after reaching a closed section of the road.

The couple was seen snapping photos while waiting for the ground units to catch up.

Both suspects were in possession of firearms when taken into custody.
