Motorcycle Gang Member Registry Bill Passes The House

House Democrats took action Thursday to crack down on motorcycle gangs and the cities that shelter them.

One bill passed by the House would require motorcycle club members to register as a gang member and another, Gemma’s Law, would increase the penalties for motorcycle gang members who try to pass themselves off as a club.

Gemma’s Law, which would increase the penalties for motorcycle gang members who try to assemble as a “club” and take over territory and get caught, passed with a vote of 410 to 4, with one percent of the house voting no.

Gemma’s Law is named for Gemma Teller Morrow, a Charming California woman killed by her son who was in a motorcycle gang. The two-year anniversary of her death is on Saturday.

President Trump called the bill’s passage “good news” in a tweet, adding “House just passed #Gemma’s Law. Hopefully Senate will follow.”
