Neighbors complaints of lethargic raccoons leads to an arrest of local man on animal cruelty charges

Pompano Beach, Fla – A neighbor’s complaint to authorities about spotting a number of raccoons behaving strangely led authorities to stakeout a dumpster where the neighbor spotted the lethargic raccoons. On June 25th at approximately 1:30 AM officers spotted a group of three raccoons hanging around the dumpster. Five minutes later around 1:35 AM officers spotted a man firing a high power air rifle at the group of raccoons from a second story window of a nearby apartment building.

Police confronted the resident of the apartment and took him into custody on charges of animal cruelty. A sesrch of the ap artment by police recovered a high powered air rifle, paraphernalia of improvised weaponry, and moonshine paraphernalia , The resident of the apartment has been identified as a 40 year old man of Hispanic ethnicity. Public records show that apartment is rented to a Mr Carlos Velasquez of Coral Springs, Fla. Mr Velasquez could not be reached for futher comment.
