Woman Arrested in Lancaster Homicide

A local Rock Hill woman will face homicide charges after a Thursday incident left one dead and three more in critical condition. The suspect Chelsea Burgess, 26 of Rock Hill could face up to 25 years if convicted. The incident happened Thursday, June 29th in Lancaster, SC. At around 3pm the suspect entered the Lancaster Wal-Mart where security footage shows the suspect enter into several altercations with multiple individuals. The altercations started when the deceased victim complained about a customer in a wheelchair taking too long in the checkout process, the suspect then proceeded to explain to the customer that they were being rude, the exchange quickly turned deadly when heated words were exchanged and other customers quickly became involved. A witness who asked to remain anonymous said “It was horrible, she showed no remorse for the guy, he was obviously ignorant, but she didn’t have to kill him!” Another witness to the incident said ” She was just standing up for what was right, he went for her first and then other ignorant people jumped in and she finished it, I mean can you blame her?” Other charges are being investigated in the incident involving the individual in the wheelchair holding victims down while the suspect repeatedly kicked and maimed them. Burgess is being held in the Lancaster Correctional Facility on 1,000,000 bond. Her first court appearance will be held Monday, July 3rd.
