ATF Investigation Reaches Gila County

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has been conducting an investigation in partnership with the NSA concerning serial numbers on Firearms. Beginning August 14, 2017, all firearms in the counties under investigation must be registered with the ATF by serial number. Any weapons discovered to not be submitted before December 31, 2017 will result in fines and/or jail time in correlation with the number of Firearms withheld from the registration. State officials for Gila County received notice that they will be included in this investigation on July 19, 2017. The National Security Agency will be monitoring social media posts during the registration period in search of names of citizens and posts referencing Firearms to determine whether or not a citizen is failing to register a firearm. More information about how to register your firearm will be available in the coming days.
