Attacked by a Bear!

A Kingsley man was mauled earlier today by a Black Bear protecting its cubs. The incident took place around noon on Thursday. The man, Jack Mehoof was cutting down pine branches around his property. When trying to remove a heavy branch is stumbled upon the mother bear and its cubs. Mr. Mehoof commented ” it was so quick and sudden…I had no idea what to do”. Mr. Mehoof was aware of bears in the area but had not seen them this aggressive. ” I’ve been living in Kingsley for over forty years,” he remarks “Never seen them get into cars, try to open doors…too aggressive for this time of year”. Mr. Mehoof blames it on the heat. “Bears are attracted to open windows and fans. A friend who worked for the DNR told me that the frequency the fans spin at attract them”. Mr. Mehooof would not comment any further.
