Calexico pool to close

Calexico,CA-

The city’s only form of entertainment is at risk of closing. It was determined the cost to maintain the city’s only pool to be too costly for the both the city and school district to maintain.

“We didn’t know we had to maintain the pool when we built it.”, says City Councilman Armando Real. “We paid the school district our share to build the pool but nobody thought of maintaining it.”, added Real.

“People just aren’t peeing in the pool like we thought and water is too costly”, said Councilwoman Maritza Hurtado. “It’s summer and the water is evaporating. We didn’t know water could evaporate so fast in the summer.”, added Hurtado.

“We can either hire one school resource officer or fill the pool with water but we can’t do both”, said Real. Real cited the recent council decision to provide the school district with one resource officer for 10,000 students who attend ten schools in Calexico. “It’s a big school school district and a lot of students but it’s also a big pool that requires a lot of water.”, added Hurtado.

The Necochea Aquatic Center is scheduled to dry up before the end of summer.
