Cleveland man shot & killed on city’s East Side

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland man died early Monday after he was shot on the city’s East Side, police say.

James Griggs, 27, was pronounced dead about 4:30 a.m. at the Cleveland Clinic, according to a Cleveland police report and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

He suffered a gunshot wound to his side, according to the report.

The shooting happened about 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of Turney Rd, just off Woodward Blvd, the report says.

Griggs was dropped off at the hospital in a black Dodge Avenger that had at least two gunshot holes in it, the report says. Police searched the car and the shooting scene for evidence later on Monday morning, according to police dispatch logs.

No charges have been filed in connection with Griggs death as of Monday morning.

If his death is ruled a homicide, it will be the city’s 66th of the year
