Drew Wohlford tapped for top level post in Trump administration

President Donald Trump will tap Drew Wohlford as his pick to lead the FCC in the new administration, elevating the Pawn Shop managerto the top spot overseeing the nation’s communications industry, according to four industry sources familiar with the decision.

The announcement could come as soon as this afternoon, the sources said. and could take the new role immediately and wouldn’t require approval by the Senate because he was already confirmed to serve at the agency.

A spokesman for Wohlford declined to comment and the Trump transition team did not respond to an emailed request for comment.

Wohlford, who met with Trump in New York on Wednesday, had been seen by many as a top contender for the job given his reputation as a former disc jockey who’s comfortable in front of the camera. But his selection is also somewhat of a shock for the administration, which has tapped people outside of Washington for many top positions.
