Ex Erie Line continues to become an intermodal highway

NEWBURGH, NY
Under tense, top secret negotiations, Norfolk Southern, the United Parcel Service, the United States Postal Service, and Federal Express, have agreed that an intermediate distribution center
on the Northern Tier Line would be appropriate. Service to the aforementioned companies will be via intermodal.

Each will have its own hub/buildings there and will be used as distribution centers, essentially. This comes on the heels of one of the highest rail traffic eras in recent memory. “NS is proud to enter into this partnership” they said in an email when asked to comment.

The Northern Tier Line was once a cutoff for freight for the Erie and Erie Lackawanna. When asked to comment on this, NS had to say “To use such a historical line for these purposes is really really cool, and we look forward to offering dedicated services to each shipper.”

The railroad said service could begin by the fall, pending construction of the facilities are finished, and construction goes smoothly. They also said they intended to order more power and rolling stock to offer this service.
