Providence Place Mall closing in April 2019?

Nosmo King, a representative for the Providence Place Mall, made a shocking announcement on Thursday morning about the future of what has been a huge Rhode Island mainstay over the past couple of decades.

“Due to severe financial constraints, the Providence Place Mall will be forced to close in 21 months. The current business climate in Rhode Island is not sustainable for us to continue operations.”

This was met with a swift response from the governor’s office.

“This will undoubtedly have major implications for a number of local and nationwide merchants that have a brick-and-mortar presence in the Ocean State,” stated Frank Black, Rhode Island’s chief business liaison. “We will continue to work aggressively with the principal owners of the Providence Place Mall on reaching a deal that equally serves the best interests of the consumers and the affected businesses.”

Unbelievably, the tentative long-term plan is to turn the entire facility into a high-tech wi-fi zone where every machine is only allowed to access Amazon.com.
