Security guard steals vehicle then rolls it over in neighborhood

NORMAN- OK A 26 year-old man is facing charges after he stole a vehicle and wrecked it early Monday, police said.

The Norman Police Department said an officer was running radar on Sooner Road at about 1:55 a.m. when an SUV sped past her going 85 mph in a 30 mph zone.

The officer attempted to pull the SUV over, but the driver sped off, according to the report. The officer didn’t pursue him, but continue at the speed limit in the direction the SUV was traveling.

Police said she found the SUV on its roof, in the 1400 block of Tecumseh Road. Some residents had heard the crash and come outside to render aid to the 26 year-old driver.

The man suffered a significant cut to his hand and was taken to a hospital. He was later arrested on tentative charges including operating without a valid licenses, failure to stop at a stop sign, exceeding the speed limit (55 miles over) and failure to use turn signal.

Police said the SUV had been stolen in Moore earlier in the night. Norman police said a theft case is being investigated by Moore police.
