Talking to Dog Sign of Dementia

Do you talk to your dog? Do you talk to your dog like a human being? Do you talk to your dog while doing household chores? Do you pretend they answer back just so you can have a two-sided conversation? While you may not be alone, a multi-year study of the largest sample set to date by the University of Raddington reveals such odd behavior is a sign of developing dementia.

Doctor Reginald Bampton, and expert in human-pet psychology, revealed the results of the study were quite stark and surprising. “Well beyond statistical error,” he said. Dr. Bampton continued, “Of course dogs are not humans. They are not even on the same realm of intrinsic value. What our extensive study showed is people who talk to dogs on a regular basis at such a human level are losing their grip on reality. My colleague, Dr. Stein, noted the similarity to dementia sufferers. When we connected the dots, it was eye opening!”

The University hopes the results of this study will serve as an early warning system for the onset of dementia and signs of early onset as well.

“We are preparing Public Service Announcements for community radio stations to play,” University Provost Sam Andrew said. “It is our civic duty.”

The lesson to be learned is if you have human-like conversations with your dog or know some who does, please get a mental acuity exam from a certified physician immediately.
