Texas freshwater Red Drum record

A San Antonio resident caught a Texas record Red Drum at Caliveras lake located in Elemdorf Texas South of San Antonio. Texas Park and Wildlife recorded the catch at the marina measuring the red at 48 inches and 23lbs. The lake record was 43 inches caught in 1984. Angler Mike Hoggard not only caught the new lake record but now holds the record at all Texas lakes that stock these fish Caliveras, Braunig and Fairfield. Mr Hoggard stated he got to the lake and cast a pumpkin seed colored rattle trap and on the second cast hooked the monster fish. “I fought him for at least 20 minutes and thought I lost him twice” he was not fishing for reds and was using his bass rig with 12 lb test line.
