AMAZON TO BUILD A DISTRIBUTION FACILITY AND ADD NEW JOBS

NEWBURGH, NY
Announced in the wee hours on August 11th, 2017, Amazon.com will be building a distribution facility in Newburgh, NY. Doing this will add 1,000 new jobs to the Orange County market. Amazon also contracted with East Coast giant Norfolk Southern to haul trailers and intermodal containers to and from the new distribution facility. Once complete, this could drive as many as three new daily trains.

When contacted by email, Amazon said the following statement: “Amazon is proud to announce a new chapter amid recent major expansion, including book stores. This is a strategic location for us as we can then distribute items from this facility to others such as Walmart, Target, and Dollar General once it is complete. We are also proud to have Norfolk Southern taking care of us, and we’re content being a customer with them. We are very content with their customer service also, and we look forward to doing business with them.”

When Norfolk Southern was contacted by email for comments, they had this to say: “Norfolk Southern is proud to announce a new partnership with Amazon and we look forward to serving them. In a time of increased rail traffic, the distribution facility comes at an interesting time, and we look forward to serving Amazon. This new facility could bring in close to an extra million dollars and three new daily trains, which is nice for us and the system. Service is anticipated to begin around mid – October.”
