Minor eruption occurs on Glacier Peak.

A small eruption has occurred on the summit of Glacier Peak at 4:09 PST spreading approximately 200,000 cubic feet of ash into the air. No one is believed to have been harmed, but geologists are investigating the nearing possibility of another, much more dangerous eruption. “We’ve seen eruptions from volcanoes [in the] past,” said geologist J Bretz, “but none of this potential size. If Glacier Peak were to erupt it would be the most catastrophic eruption in the last millennium.”
Local police and fire agencies have been evacuating local residents in Snohomish County and the Governor is holding a mandatory emergency meeting this evening.
