Monkey escapes from Fota Wildlife Park

A Colobus monkey who made a daring escape from his habitat at Fota Wildlife Park in Co Cork earlier this week has been safely rescued.

Cheeky Chops escaped from the wildlife park on Tuesday. Police think that a mother and child from Moycullen may have had a hand in his escape. Security cameras filmed a boy roughly 8 or 9 coaxing the monkey into a Hyundai Tuscon apparently by using Rich Tea biscuits. A witness thought to have heard the mother call the boy ‘Lochlann’. The invest is ongoing.

Roisin Fitzgerald, Marketing Manager at Fota Wildlife Park, said they finally managed to coax the monkey down from a tree in the car park Friday afternoon after the monkey was able to escape the Hyundai Tuscon.

β€œAfter a few hours of coaxing with his favorite treats, he was able to be caught and is now relaxed in his enclosure ‘.
