Butthole Surfers vocalist Gibby Haynes dead at 59

Gibby Haynes, the lead singer of the Texas punk rock group Butthole Surfers died this morning at 59 years old. During a Butthole Surfers concert the previous evening at Madison Square Garden, a drunk audience member climbed onto the stage and knifed Haynes in the neck. Rooted in the 1980s hardcore punk scene, the band quickly became known for their chaotic concerts, black comedy, and a sound that incorporated elements of psychedelia, noise rock, punk and, later, electronica, as well as their use of sound manipulation and tape editing. After being stabbed, Haynes was carried to a New York hospital and was able to stay alive until this morning. The investigation on this case is still ongoing
