RMIT journalism lecturer busted as creator of fake news

A lecturer in the school of Journalism at Melbourne’s RMIT has been outed as a fabricator of fake news after students were sent a news story created by the lecturer on a make-your-own-fake-news-story website.
The news item sent to students the night before a class on fact-checking and verification claimed that the lecturer, Gordon Farrer, wrote the fake news story himself and sent it to students to show how easy it is to create and share bullshit online.
“See, it’s this easy,” Farrer typed into the pro forma template at channel23news.com. “I just typed all that stuff before this quote from me. I’m about to type a couple more sentences after I find a suitable image, so keep reading.”
Farrer then went looking for an appropriate photograph to go with the fake news item.
“That pic of me in the stupid Panama hat from my Madrid trip would make me look like the sort of goose who would do this sort of crap.
“Perfect.”
