Washington Legilators to enact a “Winter Preparedness” endorsement to your license and vehicles

With the added risk, expense and delays created by unprepared drivers who lack experience to properly manage their vehicles in winter conditions; residents of Washington will now be required to take additional courses when either renewing their license or obtaining a new license.

Accidents and delays caused by inexperienced drivers create increased costs in insurance rates and delays for transport vehicles traveling over mountain passes. Lawmakers frustrated with delays and accidents created by unsafe vehicles and inexperienced drivers, have devised what they feel will drastically decrease the liability created by these conditions. With this legislation, drivers will be required to have a vehicle inspection prior to traversing the passes and will receive a “Winter Preparedness” sticker which adheres to your windshield, visible to State Patrol who will monitor compliance.

All vehicles planning to traveling over mountain passes will be required to have this inspection prior to their trip, beginning April 1, 2018. The cost is $245.00 per vehicle, a yearly fee which is non-transferrable to new owners.
