Police are trying to identify a man who died Friday, Dec. 15, in a fire at a Traverse City duplex.
Firefighters found the man’s body after putting out the fire at 1305 Veterans Drive, police Chief Jeffrey O’Brien said.
Firefighters were called at 4:09 a.m.
O’Brien said police could not positively identify the remains, and have identified a possible relative in the Ann Arbor area willing to provide a DNA sample in an effort to identify the victim.
Three others in a separate unit managed to escape, with two of them going to the hospital for evaluation, the police chief said.
The state police Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
