Former DeWitt Yard to get an inland port!

December 8th, 2017
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK. A former CSX yard is going to get a makeover. Officials announced during the late morning on Monday that the former DeWitt Yard will get an inland port. This will be funded through a Federal grant. DeWitt yard, formerly CSXT Transportation, and Conrail’s yards prior to those two acquisitions, has seen a rise of traffic over the years. Now that CSX has been broken up between Norfolk Southern Corp., and NYSW, traffic levels have surged.

Due to the high amount of volume, and record economic growth, this site makes sense to put a second inland facility on. This new port could save anywhere between $500 and $1,500 a container, and speed the logistics chain up. Once completed, the new terminal could see upwards of 80,000 containers a day!

Officials stated that completion of the terminal would be around this time next year (Spring/Fall/Winter 2018). Media spokesperson from both companies indicated that their companies are excited for this, and intend to provide the best quality service possible.
