Australian journalist connection revealed in Trump book

Among the many revelations in Michael Wolff’s explosive new book about the Trump White House, “Fire and Fury”, is that an Australian conservative journalist played a part in the campaign to get Donald Trump elected.

Mike Stockton, whose political predictions include the William McMahon victory of 1972, the John Hewson victory of 1993, the John Howard victory of 2007, and the impeachments of American Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama, spent time with Mr Trump in the lead-up to the 2016 election.

Steve Bannon is quoted in the book as saying that Stockton played a kind of “babysitter” role.

“We felt safe leaving Trump alone with Stockton,” Bannon is quoted as saying.

“He seemed to be the only person more clueless than Trump. We were confidant that, having spent time together, Trump was not going to come away knowing anything he didn’t know before.”

Mr Stockton was unavailable for comment, as he’d left his mobile phone on a bus.
