Spongebob to end run after 19 years

After 19 years of being on the run, the popular Nickelodeon cartoon “Spongebob Squarepants” will be coming to an end. Debuting in 1999, the show launched the career of Tom Kenny, who voices the show’s title character. The series has also had many guest stars over the years including KISS bassist Gene Simmons, Johnny Depp, Dennis Quaid, Ray Liotta, former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach, David Hasselhoff, Pat Morita and David Bowie. Metal band Pantera also performed the music on one of the show’s second season episodes. Two feature films based on the series were also released; one in 2004 and one in 2015. The show’s creator Stephen Hillenburg wanted to end the series following the release of the first film, but Nickelodeon picked up the show for more episodes. Hillenburg was also diagnosed with ALS in May 2017

The show’s final episode will air on November 24. However, reruns of the show will still air Nickelodeon
