Uncontrollable Fire Burns Down Neighborhood

On Sunday, April 29, a massive fire burnt down a majority of the Brentwood neighborhood, located in North Kansas City. Officials haven’t released information as to the cause of the fire yet, but witnesses say that it started when an intoxicated neighbor lit an open bonfire in their backyard. After dousing the bonfire in gasoline, it didn’t take long for the fire to ignite and spread.

The fire started at approximately 5:25 p.m., with the first 911 call made at 5:40 p.m. Firefighters arrived on-scene at approximately 5:50 p.m. and fought the fire until 9:30 p.m. We are aware of at least 2 deaths and the loss of at least 5 pets. Police have not yet released an official count on the number of total lives lost at this time.

Firefighter Luke Davis was able to speak with us briefly stating, “I have never seen anything like it. I’ve been working at Station 7 for 9 years now and have never fought a fire as aggressive as today’s. It is devastating.”
