Suspect in stabbing has May 21 hearing

PROVO β€” A Provo man charged with stabbing another man 17 times during an August brawl will have a preliminary hearing in 4th District Court May 21.

At the hearing, a judge will determine if there is enough evidence to order the man to stand trial on the charges.

Brett Goodman, 35, was originally scheduled to begin a two-day trial on Monday. After the state made some technical changes to the aggravated assault charge, Judge Steven Hansen scheduled a preliminary hearing.

Police say Goodman stabbed 22-year-old Cody Haight on Aug. 23, after they started fighting at a party. Haight was treated for 17 stab wounds and a punctured lung at a hospital.
