Mahikeng – A hacker group under the name ICU has taken over social media accounts of students in Mahikeng, North West(South Africa)
Learners from local schools such as Sol Plaatje Secondary and Mafikeng High School were left surprised when a large number of their social media accounts were hacked. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Gmail account were affected in the cyber attack from the group, which they have claimed responsibility for. The group dictate that they are merely cleansing the world of those who do wrong. Very little is known about the ICU but an ICT specialist confirmed to us that they reside in Cape Town, Sutherland and Roodeport as their bases of operation, they also allegedly have a branch in the North West. Usually attacks like these are not to be taken seriously but how quickly the group has risen is something to take note of. The member(s) of this group are yet to be known but police are investigating.
A total of 9 cases has been opened at the Mmabatho police station, police are yet to identify any suspects but remain confident of apprehending the cyber criminals. Our sources from inside the ICU declined to comment but left a rather cryptic message saying, “Our next attack will take place soon.”
