Following the riots in Washington D.C., and the subsequent arrests, the House of Representatives has opened the floor to impeachment proceedings. The impeachment proceedings resulted from a series of political scandals involving the Trump administration that came to be collectively known as Trumpate.
In August 2018, the House Judiciary Committee began formal impeachment hearings against Trump. On August 27 , the first article of impeachment against the president was passed. Two more articles, for abuse of power and contempt of Congress, were approved.
