Wappapello, MO – Several beaches on this lake in Missouri have been closed due to a disturbing find in Lake Wappapello.
Boaters and swimmers, preparing for the evening’s fireworks show were alarmed when what appeared to be a large fin cutting through the water. Missouri Game and Fish officers were called in and were able to catch this 6 foot Bull Shark 50 yards from the swim beach.
Biologists have determined that this shark probably made it’s way down through the St. Francis river in Missouri where at least 10 sightings have been reported. With recent flooding in this part of the country it has become more easy for larger fish to escape through the overflows of the dams while releasing excess water from the reservoirs.
Missouri Fish and Wildlife officials urge caution and recommend all boaters and campers keep a shark bite kit on hand until this has been contained.
