Horse head found in Burger King walk-in freezer

Gettysburg, Pa.

Following an anonymous phone tip to the Adams County Health Dept., a surprise health inspection led by Chief Health Inspector, Offc. Paul Blank was made to the Burger King restaurant at 12572 York St. , Gettysburg, Pa.
Upon inspection of the premises including the walk-in freezer a partially frozen horse head was found in the freezer. The horse head was seen to have no eyes, tongue, or hair. Offc. Blank observed an employee grinding meat in the kitchen prep area. The manager, Jacob Horowitz, was taken into custody immediately, as well as the employee seen grinding meat. Samples were taken from the meat grinder to verify the authenticity of the meat. It was confirmed to be indeed horse meat.
Burger King’ s manager and employee were questioned about their knowledge of unlawfully selling horse meat to its customers as 100% USDA beef. They admitted to the crime and were charged with cruelty to animals, unlawfully selling tainted good product, and contaminating a work area.
